Crashes on Windows 2000
Henry Oliver
December 2003
Symptom
PC crashes during an install of the Xclef MT-500 device. I suppose this problem will occur on XP as well.
Cause
Problem is caused by having the wrong Xclef MT-500 drivers in the Windows driver cache.
Solution
- Change directory to c:\<windir>\inf (windir=Windows,WinNT)
- Rename MT500.inf to MT500.inf.exclude
- Rename wd_virtual.inf to wd_virtual.inf.exclude
- Follow the install instructions as per the Xclef MT-500 instruction manual
- The drivers are to be found in the C:\Program Files\Digital Audio Manager II\Driver directory as per the manual
Unrecognised device on Windows XP
Henry Oliver
December 2003
Symptom
- Installation of the Xclef MT-500 results in the installation of a USB device named "Unknown Device"
- Further messages indicate the device is malfunctioning
- This problem may occur on Windows 2000
Cause
USB extention cable is being used. Possible reasons include: the MT-500 is a USB 1.x device (Very unlikely that this may be the cause, the voltage may not be sufficient to travel the extended length or the USB cable supplied is proprietary.
Solution
Do not make a physical connection from the Xclef MT-500 via a USB extention cable. Use only the supplied cable from the device to the PC.
Player freezes on startup
Jimmy Kerekes / Duncan
December 2003
Symptoms
- If the player is turned on and a MMC card is inserted all is well; the player starts normally, folders can be navigated etc.
- But if a MMC card is in the player and then the player is turned off and then back on again, the "F/S Initial" message is displayed on the screen the player freezes up.
- The MMC card works OK apart from this.
Note: the "F/S Initial" message only appears on firmwares 2.0.10 or later.
Cause
The exact cause is unclear, but seems to be related to this particular, unbranded, MMC card. The player works fine with a TDK branded SD card.
Solution
Try a different memory card and possibly move from MMC to SD.
